Charity Ratings Method
We have based our rating system on the US based Charity Navigator:
http://www.charitynavigator.org/
Charity Navigator has developed an unbiased, objective, numbers-based rating system and has assessed over 8,000 of America’s charities; both well known and lesser known. Charity Navigator's rating system examines two broad areas of a charity's performance: their Financial Health and their Governance.
Our rating system looks at a charity’s Financial Efficiency and Good Governance as well. However, Giving Back Association also
sends its team to visit the facilities of each charity we rate, touring the facilities and conducting in-person interviews with the management. We then publish detailed reviews reporting our
findings. We aim to show donors how efficiently we believe a charity will use donations, as well as their level of commitment to good governance, best practices and transparency.
(our reviews)
We then issue separate weighted scores of 0-100 for Financial Efficiency and Good Governance, which are then combined, resulting in a 0 to 4 star rating.
We have attached the rating criteria forms below so that you can see the methodology used for each category as well as how we combine them for the overall ratings.
